SAFI Institute of Advanced Study (Autonomous), established in 2005 by the Social Advancement Foundation of India (SAFI), is a premier higher education institution in Kerala. Managed by a leading charitable trust, the college has steadily grown into a multidisciplinary centre of learning offering 17 undergraduate and 8 postgraduate programmes across Arts, Science, Commerce, Management, Social Work, Media Studies, and Education.
The institution is affiliated with the University of Calicut, recognized by the Government of Kerala and the University Grants Commission (UGC) under 2(f), approved by AICTE, and is an ISO-certified institution. In line with its expansion into teacher education, the college has also received recognition from the National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE) to offer the Integrated Teacher Education Programme (ITEP) — B.A. B.Ed and B.Sc. B.Ed — starting from the academic year 2025–2026.
SAFI achieved remarkable academic distinctions, securing an A++ grade (3.54 GPA) in its first NAAC accreditation cycle in 2023. The institution ranked 19th in the KIRF 2024 College Category, attaining the top position among unaided colleges in Kerala. The UGC has granted autonomous status for ten years (2024–25 to 2033–34), and the National Commission for Minority Educational Institutions has conferred Minority Status on the college.
Committed to social inclusion, the institution actively supports economically weak and socially underprivileged students, ensuring equitable access to quality education. Its expansive 100+ acre campus, located in a serene and picturesque environment at Vazhayur near Ramanattukara in Malappuram District, features a built-up area of over 3 lakh square feet. The campus is conveniently situated 22 km from Calicut City, on the route to the Calicut International Airport.
As a partly residential college, SAFI provides excellent hostel facilities for both boys and girls, cultivating a healthy, cosmopolitan, and student-friendly atmosphere. Learners from all districts of Kerala and several other states choose SAFI for its holistic educational environment that promotes leadership, innovation, and overall personality development.
The institution is recognized as a Net Negative Carbon Campus under the University of Calicut’s Green Protocol and the Government of Kerala’s Haritha Keralam Mission, reflecting its commitment to sustainability and environmental stewardship.
Further strengthening its academic standing, SAFI has been sanctioned two research centres in Microbiology and Biotechnology by the University of Calicut, paving the way for enhanced research capabilities. Additionally, a strategic MoU with Lincoln University facilitates collaborative research, academic exchange, and global exposure, broadening scientific horizons for both students and faculty.
